Founded in 2020, SoBiCo GmbH (Solutions in BioCompounds) is part of Polymer-Group based in Bad Sobernheim, Germany. Polymer-Group, founded in 1973, is an independent, privately owned group of companies offering encompassing know-how in the modification and refining of plastics, so called plastics compounding. It provides flexible and efficient support for its global customer base in the form of top-quality innovative, tailor-made products. Today, Polymer-Group has a workforce in excess of 500 and, in addition to SoBiCo, comprises four other companies in the compounding industry, all based in Bad Sobernheim: Polymer-Chemie, Sun Alloys Europe, TechnoCompound and PolyMIM.

Within Polymer-Group, SoBiCo focuses its activities on the field of bioplastics. However, SoBiCo’s activities extend beyond the typical compounding of thermoplastics. With reactive compounding, SoBiCo combines polymerization with compounding in a single production process and is the first polymer manufacturer within Polymer-Group.

SoBiCo commissioned its first production site in Pferdsfeld (around 15 km from Polymer-Group’s Bad Sobernheim site) in 2022. The site in Pferdsfeld is home to both the production plant and the material development team with its technical center and laboratory. In the medium term, there are plans to relocate SoBiCo to Polymer-Group’s new site in the “Weidenbach” industrial park near Idar-Oberstein, Germany.
